Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 5, 2026

1. Who we are

costaricacrime.com is operated by YPV LLC. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what your rights are. The short version: the Site needs no account, sets no tracking cookies, shows no ads, and never sells your data. The only personal data we hold is what you give us when you subscribe to the monthly email.

2. Data we collect

Email subscription (only if you subscribe). When you sign up for the monthly stats email we collect and store:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your email address
  • The places you chose to follow (up to 4)
  • Whether you live in Costa Rica, are considering moving there, or are just curious
  • Your language preference (English or Spanish)
  • The date and time of your consent, and of any unsubscribe

3. Analytics and logs

We use Fathom Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count page views. Fathom does not use cookies and does not store personal identifiers; we only see aggregate statistics (such as which pages are popular), never who you are.

Our hosting provider (Vercel) may process technical data such as IP addresses in transient server logs for security and operations, as is standard for any website.

4. How we use your data

We use subscription data solely to send you the monthly statistics email for your chosen places, in your chosen language. The residency question helps us understand who the Site serves. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone for marketing. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.

5. Who processes your data

We use a small number of service providers to run the Site, each processing data on our behalf:

  • Supabase — hosts our database, including the subscriber list
  • Mailgun — delivers the monthly email to your inbox
  • Vercel — hosts the website
  • Fathom Analytics — cookieless, aggregate page-view statistics

6. Data retention

We keep your subscription data while you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we mark your record as unsubscribed (and stop emailing you) rather than deleting it immediately, so your opt-out is durable. You can ask us to delete your record entirely at any time, and we will.

7. Your rights

You can ask us at any time to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, or to stop emailing you (every email also contains a one-click unsubscribe link). Contact us at the address below and we will act promptly. Depending on where you live (for example the EU/EEA or UK), these rights may be backed by law such as the GDPR.

8. Children

The Site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time; the "Last updated" date above reflects the current version. If we ever change what we collect or how we use it in a material way, we will note it prominently on the Site or in the monthly email.
